Thailand Dive Site - Koh Phi Phi |
Location : The large, sheer-cliffed lagoon at the southwestern end of Phi Phi Ley.
Access :
Just 30 minute from Phi Phi Pier. Divers enter the water at the mooring
buoy in the bay’s northern / southen entrance, and follow the coastline
north.
Condition : Visibility ranges from 8 m. and 30 m. (26-100 ft). Current in this dive
it can transform it from a gentle relaxed underwater tour to an
exciting drift-dive
Average depth : 16 m. (53 ft).
Maximum depth : 24 m. (80 ft)
The dive follows the coast along steep shelved reef, with occasional
sections of wall, swim thrus, caverns, hard corals, whips and various
species of sea anemones cover the elevated shelves. The wall section
are fairly barren, but fortunately are in the minority. There are also
small offshore pinnacles and submerged rocks to explore. Colorful
Wrasses of all sizes and schools of Moorish Idols and Bannerfish
constantly pass by.

Location : Around the towering offshore limestone structure in the bay that cuts into the southern coastline of Phi Phi Lay.
Access :
About 30 minute from Phi Phi Pier. The preferred. This site is recommended for night-diving.
Condition : Visibility averages 15 m. (50 ft). Currents, if any, are minimal along
the northern face but can be moderate along the rock’s more open
southern wall.
Average depth : 14 m. (46 ft).
Maximum depth : 20 m (66 ft).
The sandy bottom at 8 m (26 ft), is punctuated by rocky ledges among
which are numerous Bearded Scorpionfish. Fringing the rocks are
numerous Sea Whips. The southern section of the site is deeper, at 20
m. (66 ft), and follows a wall where many bivalves and clusters of Soft
Corals are in evidence, Pairs of Large Blue ringed angelfish explore
the nooks, Crannies, Lobsters, Nudibranches and Murenes. |

Location : The outer of the two large outcrops directly south of Phi Phi Lay.
Access :
Just 30 min from Phi Phi Pier.
Condition : Visibility is in the 20 m. (66 ft) range. Currents are weak to moderate.Average depth : 19 m. (63 ft).
Maximum depth : 30 m (99 ft).
The
prime spot is the southwest section, where large rocks form a
mountainous terrain, featuring walls that drop to elevated ledges.
There are many Gorgonian Seafans, Sea Whips and Colorful Solf Corals,
Lots of Scorpion fish disguise themselves amid the rocks, and various
species of Lionfish hover between. Varying sizes and species of
colorful parrotfish and Wrasses, along with large schools of Moorish
Idols, seem to be at all depths.

Location : A small rocky outcrop some 8 km. (4 n. miles) southeast of Phi Phi Lay.
Access :
Just 1 hr. from Phi Phi Pier
Condition : Visibility is good, averaging about 20 m. (66 ft). Current generaiiy weak to moderate.
Average dedth : 12 m. (40 ft).
Maximum depth : 18 m. (60 ft).
This
easy dive follows an area of submerged rocks immediately northeast of
the outcrop. These gently slope down northwards to sand at 18 m. (60
ft). The area due north of the outcrop is covered with scattered rocks
and is shallower, at about 5 m (16ft); diver can enjoy schools of
colorful reef-fish, including Blue-lined Snapper, Anemones and
Harlequin Sweetlips, not to mention more static attraction like
multicolored Plumeworms, Feather stars and crinoids.This location’s
secondary name refers to the overwhelming presence of Leopard Sharks.
There are also lots of Cuttlefish, Squids and Different species of
Triggerfishes.
