Thailand Dive Site - Lanta |
|
|
|
Location : The Southern most of the Koh Ha groups of Islands.
Access :
The entry point is off the south west face . This small Island is unbuoyed.
Condition : Visibility ranges from 5 m. to 20 m.(16-66 ft). Current, if any, is generally weak to moderate.
Average depth : 18 m.(60 ft).
Maximum depth : 25 m. (83 ft)
There is a chance of excellent adventure diving here. The south western
face has 2 brilliant caverns. The western (left) of these is a hole in
the rock at a depth of 5 m. (16 ft). This immediately enters the larger
of two connected “ cathedrals” which rise to an impressive 30 m (100
ft) above sea- level. The other entrance/exit, at the cathedrals: light
enters from the waters below, creating rather strange illusions.

Location : This is the northern most of the Koh Ha group.
Access :
just over 1 hr. by dive boat from Saladan Pier, over 4 hr. by
live-aboard from Chalong Bay on Koh Phuket. There is on permanent
mooring buoy.
Condition : Because of its positioning and size, This is always a favorable section
of this site, with calm, conditions and visibility ranging up to 25 m.
(83 ft)
Average depth : 20 m. (60 ft).
Maximum depth : 34 m. (113 ft)
One point of individuality is that the site is characterized by a
scattering of geometrically shaped rocks. Sea whips and seafans are
much in evidence, as are Featherstars and Nudibranches. The reef-life
offers nothing particularly special, but this is as good a place as any
to see Indian and Spotfin Lionfish, Bearded Scorpionfish and Emperor
Angelfish. There is a small cave off the South West wall.

Location : 27 km. (15 n.miles) west of the Rok islands and 500 m(500 yd) southwest of Hin Daeng.
Access : Just over 3 hr. by dive boat from Saladan Pier. There are mooring
buoys. Access is by “live-boat entry”or from a small serving tender.
Condition : Currents can by very strong, and can rapidly change direction.
Visibility depends on the current, ranging from 10 m. (33 ft) in
stronger currents to a staggering and mote common 40 m. (130 ft)
Average depth : 23 m. (76 ft)
Maximum depth : 70 m.+ (235 ft+)
This is one of the best dive sites in Thai waters. A series of six or
more submerged pinnacles heads southwest, the shallowest being about 8
m (26 ft) beneath the surface. This site features the deepest drop off
in Thailand, exceeding 70 m (235 ft). Large pelagics often visit, as do
other shark species and large stingrays.

Location : 27 km. (15 n. miles) west of Koh Rock and 500 m(550 yd) from Hin Muang
Access :
just over 3 hr by dive boat from Saladan Pier. There are mooring buoys.
Condition : Visibility ranges from 10 m to 40 m. (33-130 ft)
Average depth : 25 m. (83 ft).
Maximum depth : 35 m. (116 ft)
A series of wall dives, with intermittent shelves at varying depths.
There are more soft corals than hard corals, but the main attraction is
the great diversity of marine inhabitants, particularly pealgics :
Pelagics Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are the only reef-type communities or
feeding grounds within the area. This is one of the very few dive sites
in Thailand where large schools of Grey Reef Sharks are sighted. Whale
Sharks, too, often frequent these waters, as do Manta Rays, There are
also large Nurse Sharks-particularly in a cave located in a depth of
about 10 m. (33ft) on the south west wall.
